Die Weiss
The Church in the Meadow
The bus left at 3pm and we headed to our hotel. Along the way, we made a slight detour
into Die Weiss (The church in the meadow). It was built in the 1700s and still stands.
They ask for donations to help keep it renovated. We added our 5DMs. The main religion in
Germany is Roman Catholic. And they are very adamant about their religion. The outside of
the building was very modest. It looked like a regular church building (out in the middle
of nowhere, of course) but once you got inside, it took your
breath away with all the detail. The ceilings and walls were painted with scenes of heaven
and Jesus and the angels. The woodwork was also very elaborate. And you could tell
everything that looked gold, was gold! This church was a very popular tourist attraction
and they still used it for services. People from all over made paintings and wrote prayers
on whatever they could get a hold of to have the priest bless it and display it. It was an
interesting stop.
